1. Living Room Suite, Harry Chapin's 8th studio album, has a slightly different feel than some of his other works of the time. There has been some conjecture over the years that the songs on the album were largely influenced by Harry's home life (ala the title), Chapin to my knowledge never confirmed that per se, although the it was well known that Chapin's family did influence the stories in /5(19).

General CommentChapin would state in his concerts, as well as some of his TV appearances such as "The Tonight Show" that this song is about his relationship with his wife, specifically her ex husband letting her go and the two of them getting together (thus her ex is the "Poor, Damn Fool"). Chapin would joke that songs about your "old lady's ex old man" were surprisingly absent from the singer.

9. Harry Chapin was always a bit of a polarizing figure, attracting many dedicated fans but never earning much critical respect. Rhino's comprehensive three-disc box set Story of a Life doesn't really offer an opportunity for re-evaluation, nor does it even try to win over doubters. Instead, it tells a thorough history of Chapin's career, not missing a single hit or major song along the way.
